Desert Dreams and Photographic Scenes: Los Angeles to Palm Springs

Landscape view of palm springs Aerial Tramway

As a professional photographer, I always seek new adventures that blend my passion for photography with the excitement of travel. This time, my journey took me from Los Angeles to Palm Springs for a 3-day, 2-night stay. The trip was filled with iconic sights, delightful tastes, and moments captured through my lens.

Day One: Dinosaurs, Tram Rides, and Culinary Delights

Cabazon Dinosaurs

My adventure began with a stop at the iconic Cabazon Dinosaurs. These massive, prehistoric roadside attractions, including a 65-foot Brontosaurus and a 45-foot Tyrannosaurus Rex, are more than just eye-catching sculptures. They're a playful nod to the age of dinosaurs and a beloved photo spot for travelers. I couldn't resist capturing a quirky holiday picture of Santa Dino, adding a festive twist to the typical road trip photo.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Next, I headed to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. This engineering marvel offers a breathtaking ride up the cliffs of Chino Canyon. At the top, the Peaks restaurant bar awaited a quick lunch, some fine wine, and a stunning panoramic scene. The restaurant, nestled at an elevation of over 8,500 feet, offers stunning mountain views that are a dream for any photographer.

San Jacinto Peak

Before leaving, I climbed to the top of San Jacinto Peak- a quick walk up from the restaurant on the third floor. The landscape from here was nothing short of spectacular, providing a perfect opportunity for some great landscape photography.

Dinner at Tac/Quila

The day concluded with dinner at Tac/Quila in Downtown Palm Springs. Their robust menu includes vegan options like Tamales, Tacos, and Enchiladas- best of all they have a vegan dessert option! It's an ideal spot for groups with mixed dietary preferences.

Day Two: Nature, Shopping, and Music

Tahquitz Canyon River View

Morning at Koffii and Tahquitz Canyon

The day began with a latte from Koffii, followed by a hike to Tahquitz Canyon. This stunning natural wonder, known for its 60-foot waterfall and rich cultural history, was a serene escape and a fantastic opportunity for nature photography.

Mojave Flea Trading Post

After some poolside relaxation, I explored the Mojave Flea Trading Post. This unique shopping destination boasts an array of vendors and a charming grocer offering snacks from various regions, plus beer and wine tasting.

Kings Highway Diner

Dinner was at Kings Highway Diner at the Ace Hotel, accompanied by live music. Though vegan options were limited here, the ambiance and experience made up for it.

Day Three: Vegan Delights, Gardens, and Art

Breakfast at Palm Greens Cafe

I started with breakfast at Palm Greens Cafe, with its impressive vegan options. Their house-made vegan sausage and French toast are a must-try. Their non-vegan options are just as fresh, another great spot when accommodating various diety restrictions- including gluten-free!

Moorten's Botanical Garden

Next, I visited Moorten's Botanical Garden, where a knowledgeable docent led an informative tour through this stunning array of desert plant life. I happened to luck up on this free tour upon arrival. Many local volunteers hots tours throughout the week, I highly recommend trying to catch one on your visit.

Native Foods and Palm Springs Art Museum

Lunch at Native Foods satisfied my vegan burger craving. Both the Ace and Gigis restaurants removed their vegan burger options so I had been denied twice this trip.

The afternoon continued with a visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum, where I stumbled upon a lively monthly party in the museum's lobby. This cultural hub, known for its impressive art collection, also hosts a variety of community events, offering a unique blend of art and socializing. Be sure to check their event calendar to see what's going on during your next visit.

Thursday Night Village Market

The trip concluded with a stroll through the Thursday night village market on Palm Canyon Road. The vibrant atmosphere, filled with vendors and performers, was the perfect way to immerse myself among the locals and capture some great street photography moments.
